ΜΙΝΩΪΚΟ ΑΝΑΚΤΟΡΟ ΦΑΙΣΤΟΥ - ARCHAEOLOGICAL SITE OF FAISTOS
Υπήρξε μια από τις σημαντικότερες πόλεις της Μινωϊκής Κρήτης. Κατά την παράδοση φέρεται να έχει ιδρυθεί από τον Φαίστο πατέρα του Ραδάμανθυ και απόγονο του Ηρακλή. Η πόλη φιλοξενούσε λαμπρό Μινωϊκό ανάκτορο και άρχισε η ακμή της κατά τα μέσα της –τρίτης χιλιετίας. Κατά την διάρκεια των αιώνων λόγω των διάφορων καταστροφών η πόλη και το ανάκτορο χτίστηκαν αρκετές φορές. Το -160 περίπου η πόλη καταστράφηκε και σύντομα αφανίστηκε.
